Woman escapes attacker in Scarborough

An investigation has started in Scarborough after a woman managed to escape after being grabbed behind by a man.

The 18-year-old was at the junction of Castle Road and North Street in the early hours of yesterday morning when the man grabbed her.

She managed to get away after a short struggle.

Officers are trying to find the man, who is described as white, around 5ft 9in tall with a stocky build and short blond hair. The man has tattoos on his arms and speaks with an Irish accent. He was wearing a grey patterned top and blue jeans.

During the incident the suspect made a comment which suggests he is a visitor to the town and staying in a local hotel.

Thankfully the woman was not seriously injured as a result of this incident. However, she was naturally left shaken and upset by the experience.

If you have any information that could help to identify the man responsible for the assault I urge you to contact the police immediately.
