Vital repair works to a tunnel on the line between Hebden Bridge and Burnley have been completed. More than 3,000 tonnes of concrete were used to strength Holme Tunnel. The line re-opened to passengers this morning after a 20 week closure.
The 250 metre tunnel had become misaligned over time because of local ground movement which had distorted the tunnel walls.
" The reopening of Holme Tunnel and the resumption of train services between Hebden Bridge and Burnley is cause for celebration, Not only will it reconnect the north west of our network with Yorkshire but it's also a fantastic engineering achievement."
