Wednesday were nursing a sense of grievance for most of the first half after Fernando Forestieri had a goal ruled out for offside.

The fact that the officials appeared to change their mind under pressure from the Brighton players incensed Owls' head coach Carlos Carvalhal.

However, just before the break, Ross Wallace found the bottom corner with his strike.

With Brighton reduced to ten men through injury, Kieran Lee doubled the lead with a delightful finish in the 72nd minute.

The second leg is at Brighton on Monday night.
