Aston Villa captain begins treatment for acute leukaemia
The Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov begins his treatment today for acute leukaemia.
On Saturday fans held a minute's applause for the Bulgarian international during the 19th minute, as he wears the number 19 on the back of his shirt.
In Scotland, Celtic fans held up banners in support of their former playe during the Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League match at Celtic Park.
On Aston Villa's website, Andreas Weimann says the club's players are right behind their captain.
Weimann, who made his first Premier League start in Saturday's defeat to Chelsea, says Petrov has been a "major inspiration to the club's youngsters".
– Andreas Weimann, 20, Aston Villa player"Everyone at the club is devastated but we're all behind him," said Weimann.
"He's brilliant, he's our role model and captain.
"He's the one you look up to, he's been brilliant and he's a big character in the changing room."
