Dreary weather sees low turnout but big gains for Labour so far...
Early results suggest that Labour has hit both coalition parties hard to mark of a good night for Ed Miliband.
Labour has taken control of both Birmingham and Derby.
There also also signs of the electorate's current disillusion with party politics in general.
A dreary day in most parts of the Midlands didn't help turnout, which is likely to be in the low 30%s overall.
And indications are that most mayoral referendums will fail - with Nottingham already having said 'No' to the idea of a directly elected mayor.
