Footballer Jermaine Pennant has been handed an 8 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, after admitting drink driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

The Stoke City player was also disqualified from driving for 3 years and ordered to pay costs at Trafford Magistrates.

Pennant was more than twice the limit when he got behind the wheel of his BMW to drive back from Manchester to his home in Sandbach, Cheshire and was involved in a minor traffic accident.

Trafford Magistrates' Court heard that Pennant had already been banned from driving earlier by JPs in Cannock, Staffordshire, for totting up too many points on his licence
