Company bosses in the Midlands have spoken out following accusations levelled at the business community that they are simply not working hard enough.

Stuart Gizzi employs 39 people at his shower and plumbing firm in Hixon, Staffordshire.

He says while he has managed to grow the company through the recession it has been incredibly difficult and he and his staff work extremely hard.

He said what he and others like him need from the coalition is clarity.

Simon Jenner, is co-founder of two independent coffee shops in Birmingham and also head of incubation at Birmingham Science park where he runs support programmes for entrepreneurs embarking on technical start-ups.

Not one of those he has worked with over the last two years has managed to secure a bank loan.

They have all had to find funding elsewhere.

Greg McDonald bought his tool making and plastic moulding business in Cannock, after the factory had been virtually destroyed in a fire and has worked hard to turn it around.

He said while there are things the government can do to help, like cut VAT and red tape, he believes the onus is on him to make his own success.
