A 21 year old man from Walsall has secured a place in the Paralympics Team GB for target shooting.

Ryan Cockbill will make his Paralympic debut for Britain at London 2012.

A swimming pool accident in 2007 left Ryan paralysed from the chest down.

However, he found a new lease of life through competing in target shooting after first being introduced to the sport by the hospital he was recuperating in.

In 2010 Ryan scooped the bronze, silver and gold awards at his first international shooting competition and has been one of the West Midlands hottest prospects for the games since.

The athlete who currently trains for approximately 30 hours each week says the games have inspired him for the last 3 years.

Olympic fever does not end there though as Ryan will be running with the torch in Birmingham on Sunday 1st July, after being named as one of Lloyds TSB's Local Hero torchbearer.

"To wear the Team GB vest would be a great honour."
