Six people have been found guilty of rioting in Nottingham in which a police station was firebombed.

A jury at Nottingham Crown Court found four men and two teenage boys guilty after a trial that lasted seven weeks. One of the men Lance Francis, 25, was also found guilty of arson with intent to endanger life and perverting the course of justice. Another man was acquitted.

Ten people have already admitted their part in the violence disturbances that night.

During the trial the jury heard how members of the group that carried out the attack in August last year had arranged it via mobile phone messages. The police arrested 15 people within minutes of the attack.

“The quick police response on the ground following the attack on Canning Circus and the willingness from members of the public to give evidence in court played a significant part in seeing those who were intent on being part of a riot jailed.”

– DCI Rob Griffin

Fourteen people will be sentenced on Friday with two teenagers at a later date.
