A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a serious assault on a woman in Worksop.

The 25-year-old woman was seriously injured when a man struck her with a hammer at around 4am on Sunday 10 June as she walked alone along Plantation Hill.

The woman's iPhone was stolen during the attack, the victim is now recovering at home having received medical treatment in hospital.

Police are keen to talk to a number of people known to be in the area at the time, who may have seen the victim prior to the attack.

Among them are two men who were in a pale blue VW Polo car near to Kilton Hill who spoke to the woman at 3.40am.

Police would also like to talk to two other people seen on CCTV at around 3.45am looking at the victim who was near to Planation Hill opposite the Three Horseshoes pub.

“This was a very serious and highly unusual incident.

"It is very rare that something of this nature should occur anywhere in Nottinghamshire. However, in addition to launching this investigation, we are also adapting patrol plans in this part of Worksop and there will more a more visible presence of uniformed officers.

“Although we have made an arrest, it is still crucial that people who spoke to or saw a woman walking alone in the area between 3.40am and 4am on Sunday morning contact us.

They may have vital information which will help our enquiries.”
