Eight-year-old boy dies after car crash in Leicester
Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of an eight-year-old boy after a car crash in Leicester.
It happened at 10:50pm on Tuesday July 3rd on Gipsy Lane approaching Catherine Street just before the junction with Rosedale Avenue (click here for Google Map view).
The incident involved one silver and blue Smart Car which was carrying three people.
The driver of the car received minor injuries and was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and later discharged.
The front seat passenger suffered from serious injuries and is in a stable condition in the same hospital.
Abhay Jadeja, who was eight, was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham where he died in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the crash and remains in police custody.
Detective Constable Adam Sparrow, who is investigating the incident, said:
– Detective Constable Adam Sparrow, Leicestershire Police“The car was travelling along Gipsy Lane towards Catherine Street when the collision occurred just before the junction with Rosedale Avenue.
“We would urge anyone who was travelling in this area yesterday evening to contact us if they witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle beforehand.”
