Heart attack victim thanks paramedics who saved his life

Today it was all smiles, but the last time Simon Bakewell saw paramedics from the East Midlands Ambulance Service, it was a very different story.

Last year, he was recovering after a heart transplant operation, but when he was out walking the dog with his family, he had a heart attack and collapsed.

Simon's family described it as a terrifying time.

"Going through my mind was the fact that I thought he'd died, I just didn't think he would survive"

– ALISON BAKEWELL, Simon's wife

Simon can hardly remember much from that traumatic day, so he was glad to have the chance to meet the paramedics who helped save his life to say thank you.

A chance too for the paramedics to see how their quick response kept Simon living.

"It's probably the first time I've been able to meet one of the patients I've treated and to get thanks, it's really nice to see him looking so well"

– TOM HOY Student Paramedic

Simon is now looking forward to going back to work - he says he can't thank them enough.
