'Oldest Gibbon in UK' celebrates 50th birthday

Considered the oldest gibbon in the UK, Jane is getting ready to celebrate her 50th birthday.

Known as 'Granny Jane' by the keepers at Twycross Zoo in Warwickshire, the endangered lar gibbon is expected to live into their late 30s.

Jane has been with the zoo since 1966, 3 years after it opened.

The Lar gibbon is officially listed as 'endangered' on the IUCN Redlist which provides a comprehensive inventory into the population status of living species.
