Derby County have signed Coventry City's central defender Richard Keogh for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

He has already been handed the captain's armband for the season while Shaun Barker recovers from his knee injury.

As well as the chance to skipper a young, energetic team, we can offer a lovely training ground and a 26,000-strong average attendance; there's not many that can put that on the table for him and he's bought into that straight away.

Keogh, who was Coventry's Player of the Season for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, has been backed by Clough to relish the opportunity to lead Derby's young side into the new npower Championship season.

He's got great honesty and he'll put his body on the line, which we know not only from him playing against us but he has been a long-term target of ours and we've monitored his progress for some time.

Keogh arrives at Pride Park with an outstanding appearance record to his name and Clough believes that, along with his performances in a struggling Coventry side in recent seasons, highlight the type of character the former Stoke City trainee is.

To play 91 games in a row without missing a minute at Coventry speaks volumes about him, that he'll get himself out there game after game even if he's carrying a knock.
