Animals killed as thieves ransack rescue centre
An animal hospital has been raided by thieves. Thousands of pounds worth of metal cages were stolen - and a number of animals have been killed.
Two blackbirds and six hedgehogs died after the raiders broke into the Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital in Kibworth Beauchamp in Leicesteshire.
Twenty-six stainless steel and aluminium cages, worth about £30,000, were ripped from the walls.
The sick animals inside them were also thrown out of the cages.
Some animals receiving care escaped through the front door, which was wedged open.
Others, including an injured swan, were left wandering around the building.
The wildlife hospital only opened 18 months ago after £500,000 was raised through donations.
