Public transport: through the eyes of the visually impaired

National Express bus Photo: Central News

Blind and visually impaired people in the West Midlands are being encouraged to use public transport.

Action for Blind People and National Express are organising the day which will let people with sight impairments try out the buses in a safe environment, while they are parked up and not filled with commuters.

They will be encouraged to get to know the locations of the driver, hand rails, seats and ticket machines.

Bus drivers will be encouraged to try on specially designed glasses which reduce their sight - giving them a taste of the obstacles many bus users have to overcome.
