Fire Fighters from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service continue to fight a fire that started at a recycling plant on Lows Lane in Stanton-by-Dale in Derbyshire. It started on Saturday (15th September) night.
JCB's have been drafted in to move unaffected wood and crews continue to damp down the fire to reduce the spread.
– Bryan Bennett, Area Manager
“We are constantly making tactical assessments of the fire and are working with all the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of the local community and the environment.”
Environment Agency staff are working to save fish in nearby Erewash Canal as water being used to tackle the fire is running in and reducing oxygen levels.
Agency staff are now reintroducing oxygen into the canal.
The fire service is reminding local residents to keep windows and doors shut as smoke is still being generated from the fire.
Lows Lane, Stanton-by-Dale continues to be closed with diversions in place.
