More than 200 people are being made redundant at a food processing factory in Leicester.
The 2 Sisters Food Group said it plans to close its RF Brookes food manufacturing site in the city.
Products that are currently made at the plant in Magna Road, South Wigston will be moved to other factories in the 2 Sisters Group.
It took over the factory in December and said it could not sustain further food production at the site.
Workers there had previously made pies which had been a large part of the company's business.
However bosses at 2 Sisters Food Group said the decision by the previous owners to move pie making away from the Leicester factory was a large factor in their decision to close it down.
Veepul Patel, Divisional Director for RF Brookes, said:
“Today’s decision is not taken lightly but reflects that we can only operate viable sites. Our immediate priority now is to support our colleagues at Leicester through consultation.“
The company plan to close the factory in the first quarter of 2013, after a 3 month consultation period with staff about the redundancies.
