A sports car once owned by a car thief is to be auctioned off by police.

The Aston Martin DB9 was seized by officers in Nottinghamshire under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

It was bought by Ayaz Aziz from Nottingham who was part of a gang who stole cars to order.

Earlier this year Aziz was convicted of conspiracy to steal and jailed for 30 months.

In court it was established that Aziz had made around £171,000 from criminal activities. He was also ordered to repay the money.

Now the car is to be sold off in an attempt to recoup some of the money owed by Aziz.

The car has been valued at around £55,000. Any money raised from the auction is to be split between the Exchequer and other crime prevention agencies.
