More rain? The forecast for the next 36 hours.

Some evil pockets of standing water and spray on motorways today, so be safe and take extra care if you are heading off to New Year's Eve destinations.

In spite of no weather warnings being issued by the Met Office, at time of writing there are currently 23 flood warnings and 31 flood alerts in place across the Central region.Check out the environment-agency.gov.uk website where the warnings are reviewed every 15 minutes.

A band of rain continues to push eastwards this afternoon. By mid-afternoon it will be over the East Midlands, proving heavy and persistent. Drier through the West Midlands.

Windy everywhere, especially in the rain, tops 10 or 11c, 52f, but certainly not feeling like it.

By 6 or 7pm the rain clears through.

Overnight the west/east split continues.

The East Midlands will be largely dry with clear spells.

The West Midlands will see scattered showers.

Precipitation could turn wintry over the top of the Peak District, lows of 2 or 3c.

Little change into Sunday. Showers in the west at first; drier in the east.

Through the afternoon the east stays dry with brighter spells. In the west, showers are replaced by and area of rain.

Staying windy on Sunday, tops generally round 8c 46f.

The rain pushes across all areas overnight.
