An Amber Alert is in place for The Midlands throughout today for the heavy snowfall. The snow is move north and eastwards and we are seeing some heavy downfalls.

The West Midlands is seeing the heaviest of the snow with 15cm in many locations. As the snow travels east it will ease slightly but we will still see a good 5cm widely 10-15cm in western parts of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

The wind is causing problems today too causing blizzard like conditions and snow drifts making driving extremely difficult. As the sun goes down it is expected to be even more dangerous. The wind is also making it feel even colder.

Tonight the snow will continue falling giving us a few more cm in the east, slightly less further west. The sub zero temperatures mean ice will be an issue overnight. It is not a night to be out and about!

Tomorrow the snow will continue on and off through the day it won't be as heavy as today. Temperatures will not lift above freezing and it will be icy.

Sunday will bring more snow for the East Midlands. The West Midlands will be mostly dry but we can't rule out the occasional snow shower.
