Weather warnings have been issued for snow across the region tonight. An Amber 'be prepared' Alert for Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire where we could see accumulations of 10-15cm of snow in a 6 hour period.

A Yellow 'be alert' Warning is in force for the rest of the East Midlands and for Staffordshire where we could see 5-10cm of snow widely.

But al in all everywhere could see some snow showers overnight tonight. It looks as the snow showers move in this evening that they could group together giving us those larger accumulations.

Temperatures tonight will be at freezing point so the next hazard is ice! Plus it will be windy too with gusts of 40mph in more exposed spots.

So by sunrise tomorrow at 0747 a covering of snow is quite possible and then we will see snow showers on and off through the morning, but also some good dry and bright weather around too. We are expecting by lunchtime to see more snow showers which will gradually turn to rain through the afternoon. It will remain windy tomorrow too making it feel colder.

Looking further ahead it seems that the snow showers will be focussed further east for the rest of the week across Lincolnshire with further weather warnings in place for this area. Elsewhere will be drier and brighter for Wednesday and Thursday.

The wind will ease but it will still feel really cold as it is coming from a northerly direction dragging in arctic air! Expect frosty nights and icy conditions.
