A man from Tipton has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the manslaughter of his former Korean girlfriend.

A five year supervision order was also made by Judge Waite to follow Daniel Jones' sentence.

After a two-week trial in January, a jury returned a not guilty verdict to the original charge of murder, but the judge accepted a plea by the defendant to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Da In Lee's body was found at the home of Mr Jones on Grace Road on 9th April 2012.

The 22-year-old, from South Korea, died as a result of the pressure applied to her neck. Her body was left in bed clothes in the 27-year-old's flat. Jones then spent the night at Miss Lee's home.

The Judge at Wolverhampton Crown Court described Mr Jones as a "dangerous person".

You pose a significant risk to the public and this is reflected in your sentence.

Following the death of Da In Lee, who was studying International Relations at Aston University at the time, Jones visited his former partner and their child in Bristol, where he confessed to what he had done.

After being told to leave, his ex contacted police in Somerset who then raised the alarm with colleagues in the West Midlands.

Her mother and father have both suffered ill health and were too unwell to attend the trial. The judge has today handed Jones a 10 year prison sentence for this very serious offence. I hope they can take some comfort from that and start to rebuild their lives.
