The latest on the Philpott trial

The trial of three people accused of killing six children in a house fire has resumed today at Nottingham Crown Court.

Jade Philpott and her five brothers died from smoke inhalation after a blaze ripped through their home on Victory Road in Derby last May. Mick Philpott, his wife Mairead, and Paul Mosley deny manslaughter.

Ian Cousins, the ex-husband of Lisa Willis's sister, has today told the jury that Facebook allegations made by Mick Philpott that he (Mr Cousins) was having an affair with Lisa Willis were untrue. Ian Cousins is the husband (now separated) of Amanda Cousins – Lisa Willis's sister.

Ian Cousins told the court that there was no love lost between himself & Mick Philpott.

Under cross-examination Ian Cousins says he did not have any connection with starting the fire on Victory Road. When asked if he had any knowledge of who 'set the fire', Mr Cousins replied 'No'.

On the 10th April 2012 Ian Cousins bought £10 of petrol from a garage, but told the court he informed police about this under interview on the 11th May 2012 when he was arrested.

He was later released without charge.
