Why is it so cloudy?
by Lucy Kite
High Pressure is in charge of our weather at the moment sitting directly over us.
That's giving us lots of dry weather. However the position of the High means that the winds circulating around it are coming from the North-East and it's this wind that is responsible for all the cloud.
As the wind moves over the North Sea the moisture helps forms the cloud which is then pulled inland in our direction.
The satellite shows the clearer skies over Scotland which is where they have much lighter winds and as a result more sunshine.
We will see a change over the next 24 hours as we lose that North-Easterly wind and we start importing clearer air around the High Pressure which of course means more sunshine will be on offer.
However a Cold Front moving in from the east on Friday will mean a return of the cloud before it turns brighter again for Saturday.
