Former England and Aston Villa defender, Gareth Southgate, is to become the official ambassador for the StreetGames Football Pools Fives programme, which was launched last month.
The charity looks to provide opportunities for young men and women from disadvantaged areas to play 5-a-side football. They will also get a chance to try other sports and activities as well as being offered the chance to pursue coaching and volunteering roles.
Birmingham is today (Saturday 16 March) hosting the second of 11 regional tournaments. Southgate will today meet and coach the teams taking part who come from a range of community and youth projects across the West Midlands.
Former Middlesborough manager and current ITV pundit, Southgate, is best known for missing the penalty which sent England out of Euro '96 and for appearing in the Pizza Hut adverts after it.
