Over the next 24 hours a old weather front is sweeping through the region from the north-west.
It is bringing lots of cloud, wintry showers and behind it, colder air.
This afternoon expect rain, sleet and snow showers on and off. There could be some heavy downpours and thunder and lightning, more likely in the West Midlands. Temperatures will only reach 6/7c with a cool north westerly wind.
Tonight the showers will continue but will be light and patchy. We will have some drier spells and some breaks in the cloud, allowing temperatures to drop to freezing or just 1 or 2 degrees above. With the showers and cold temperatures ice will form and we can't rule out some mist and fog patches too.
That is how we start tomorrow with lots of low cloud, misty murky conditions and it will be icy too. Wintry showers will continue on and off through the morning so don't be surprised to see the odd flake of snow in the air.
The afternoon will be drier as the weather front moves away but it will remain cloudy. The east coast will see a few more showers being blown in off the North Sea. It will feel cold again with highs of just 5c.
Thursday will be dry for much of the day before rain moves in overnight and hangs around for Friday. It will be windy on Friday too making it feel even colder.
Looking ahead to the weekend and it is set to stay unsettled with lots of cloud and outbreaks of rain.
