Woman with life-limiting illness starts hairdressing business

Twenty-one-year-old Becki Stone is an ambitious young businesswoman with a plan.

She's just opened her own hairdressing salon in Syston in Leicestershire, If it takes off, she wants to open another, and plans to retire in 15 years time.

The reason? Becki has Cystic Fibrosis, a life limiting genetic condition that she's had from birth. Times not on her side, so she's determined to make the most of her life and to be a success.

She credits her parents for her endless drive and enthusiasm, and says a positive outlook on life has helped her cope with her condition.

"In my teenage years, I did feel a bit like Why Me?, it felt unfair that my friends at school could just get on with eating a bag of chips in the park at lunchtime, while I had to take 30 or 40 tablets a day".

But in her own words, she gave herself a "kick up the bum" and decided hers, was going to be a success story.

She's gone from being a mobile hairdresser, to one where her regulars come to her. Customers describe her as a "go getter" who knows what she wants and goes after it.

But Becki is also keen to keep things in the family, and her elder sister Leanne, who has Downs Syndrome, regularly helps out with the shampooing, and makes a cracking cup of tea!.
