A man has been found guilty of killing his friend in the grounds of a Matlock library.
44-year-old Michael Wayne Carroll denied the manslaughter of Alexander Blick, from Matlock Bath, but was found guilty after a seven-day trial at Nottingham Crown Court.
Carroll, of Upper Greenhill Gardens in Matlock, will be sentenced on 29th April.
Mr Blick's body was found by a local on 16th October 2011. He had suffered a massive head injury.
Police discovered Mr Blick had been drinking with Carroll the day before his death.
Mr Blick's blood was later found on Carroll's shoes and clothing.
– Senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent Andy Stokes
We don’t know why Carroll launched this particularly nasty attack on his friend and we may never know. I hope this conviction brings some form of closure for Mr Blick’s friends and family, who have waited 18 months for justice.
