There was disappointment for Leicester Ladies in the play off final of the

women’s hockey league when they were beaten in a dramatic penalty shoot out by Reading.

The game finished 1-1 after full time and extra time but Reading went on to win 2-0 on penalty shuffles.

Reading had looked like they would win in normal time until Leicester’s Vanessa Hawkins scored with the last play of the game taking the match into extra. But it wasn’t to be for Leicester Ladies who were denied four times by Reading’s goalkeeper.

Leicester had finished top of the league and had gone into the finals weekend as the top seeds. The result means they qualify in second place for Europe.
