An 83-year-old woman from Leicestershire has been reliving her childhood at a re-enactment of a World War Two evacuation.A thousand schoolchildren, carrying gas mask boxes and name tags, have been taking part in the event on the Great Central Railway.Joining them was former evacuee Maisie Walker from Loughborough. She was forced to leave London in 1941 at the age of 11 after her home was destroyed in the Blitz. She said today's event brought back many memories. "Like the children today, we found it all a great adventure," she said, "but we were much more subdued."The children from schools in Leicestershire are learning about the war in class. Teacher Karen Potter from Newcroft Primary School in Shepshed said the experience really helps bring history to life.
