ITV News Central's guide to alternative travel arrangements for A38 tunnel closures

The A38 tunnels in Birmingham will be closed from tomorrow until 2nd September, 24 hours a day.

Highway maintenance teams are urging people wanting to enter the city centre to use alternative modes of transport:

Park and ride

  • Special parking arrangements have been put into place to include additional free parking facilities in Perry Barr and reduced parking charges at Birmingham International rail station

Rail

  • Reduced parking charges will be put in place at Birmingham International rail station during the tunnel closures

Metro

  • The Midland Metro is the light rail system for the West Midlands, it operates seven days a week with 23 stops along the route, four with Park and Ride facilities

Bus

  • Bus routes will be affected with diversions put in place and changes to bus stops

Cycling

  • Commuters can cycle to work or to train stations nearby

Walk to work schemes

  • Network West Midlands is working with businesses in the city to help them let their employees know about the closures to help them implement their own schemes
