A severe storm is forecast for the UK tonight and tomorrow that will sweep directly through the East and West Midlands.
Damaging gusts of wind exceeding 80mph are expected and heavy rain too. There is the potential for damage to trees and structures and very dangerous driving conditions especially for Monday morning rush hour.
An Amber Alert has been issued by the Met Office for the strong wind and Yellow Alert for the heavy rain.It is all happening as an very intense area of Low Pressure in the Atlantic spreads Northeastwards bringing the strong wind and heavy rain to The Midlands. We will all see the rain by midnight and it will sweep through overnight and Monday morning before clearing around lunchtime on Monday. We can expect 20-30mm of rain in a 6-9 hour period. That is a large amount of rain in a short space of time on already saturated ground after all the rain this week. The Autumnal leaves will also block the drains and flooding is likely to be an issue.
Please keep a close eye on the Environment Agency website. However it is the wind that is our biggest feature over the next 24 hours. We will see gusts of 60-80mph widely. On the Lincolnshire coast the wind will be even strong than that especially on Monday morning. The wind will be strong enough to bring down branches and trees and cause damage to structures. High sided vehicles and caravans should also be aware that it will be extremely dangerous on the roads.A storm at this time of year always causes more disruption. The ground is saturated meaning trees are more likely to fall. The leaves block drains and cause flooding and all the recent rain means that river levels are already high increasing the flood risk.
