Few people realise that a dog will cost them more than £13k in food and kennels over its lifetime, according to new research from a pet insurance company.

That's without taking into account sickness or injuries.

On average Midlands' pet owners spend between £3500 and £4000 on their dogs' dinners.

One in seven people in the West Midlands have considered giving up their dog because of their financial situation - that's the highest figure in the country.
