Former Aston Villa chairman has told ITV News Central that Carson Yeung once tried to buy Villa. Yeung was found guilty yesterday of money laundering by a court in Hong Kong.

Sir Doug, who sold Villa in 2006, said he met one of Yeung's representatives at Villa Park when he was looking for a buyer. He said he was also considering bids from four others.

But four out of the five - including Carson Yeung - were all borrowing money, so I discarded them.

The only man I chose was the present chairman, who is a good man.

Sir Doug said he had "huge sadness" at the situation Birmingham City FC found itself in.

Carson Yeung took over at Birmingham City in 2009. Yesterday, he was found guilty of money laundering in Hong Kong. He will be sentenced on Friday.

He is no longer the chairman of the club but remains the majority shareholder.
