The 68-year-old pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham but was later pronounced dead.

The car involved in the incident, a white Fiat Marea, did not stop at the scene and was later found abandoned in Old Moat Way, Ward End, with front end damage and a shattered windscreen. It will now be forensically examined for clues to help identify the driver.

We’d like to hear from anyone who saw the white Fiat Marea - very noticeable with its windscreen smashed - being driven around Ward End and especially anyone who saw it being parked up in Old Moat Way."

"I’d also urge the driver of the car to do the right thing and get in touch so he can put across his side of the story and explain how the collision occurred."
