Leicester Tigers centre Matt Toomua is facing six months on the sidelines after a knee injury.

Rugby director Richard Cockerill confirmed that the 26-year-old Australian will be having knee surgery.

Toomua, who is capped 33 times, was hurt during the first half of last Sunday's European Champions Cup pool game against Racing 92 in his second appearance.

They look unlikely to see him in competitive action again until the closing weeks of the season.

Tigers have also lost England centre Manu Tuilagi to injury since the season's opening round of Aviva Premiership fixtures in early September.
