Two boys on a moped have knocked over and killed a widow's puppy in a park in Sutton Coldfield.

It happened at Sutton Park at 2pm on Sunday. Rorie, a six-month-old cocker spaniel, was “dead before he hit the ground”.

Widow Lynn Hodson, 54, said the moped “came out of nowhere” – and could easily have hit a child – before the riders fled.

She estimated it was doing up to 40mph when it smashed into her family’s beloved pet near the Streetly Gate entrance in an area where vehicles are banned.

Lynn said:

Rorie had gone to say hello to another dog when these two lads came out of nowhere at speed.

They didn’t stop – they went straight through the middle of the crowd and hit Rorie.

He was thrown up into the air and was dead when he hit the ground. The moped skidded across the ground and some people chased them but they got back on and drove off.

We took Rorie to a vet but there was nothing they could do.

West Midlands Police are looking into the details of the incident. It was also reported that full descriptions of the moped riders had been supplied to officers.

The partner of one witness wrote on Facebook:

The two boys fell off the bike in the collision...they got up and LAUGHED.

The puppy was flat out on the ground dying. I feel for the poor puppy and his family who must be devastated.

Please help catch these people and an attempt to get justice for this poor little puppy and his family.
