A local designer who made a name for himself with a recycled coffee pod dress will now judge a national competition.

Rhys Ellis, from Kings Norton, will be part of the Junk Kouture panel, looking at designs and works of wearable art from everyday ‘junk’.

He was selected for the panel after previously wowing judges with his handmade dress designs - made out of repurposed coffee pods.

The 25-year-old joins X Factor judge Louis Walsh, singer-songwriter Una Healy and model Katie Brill on the panel.

They will judge the Grand Final, to be held in Dublin on April 27, looking at designs by secondary school students throughout Scotland and Ireland.

Talking to students and understanding their views on the world highlights how they’re going to have an impact on our future. I’m really looking forward to the final to see how the students showcase their vision.
