The West Midlands has lost 100,000 manufacturing jobs in the past 10 years, according to the GMB union.
It is the worst affected region according to a new study, which revealed the UK has 'haemorrhaged' 600,000 manufacturing jobs in a decade.
The union says the cuts equate to a loss of £11.3 billion in wages nationally.
Its research found that the UK supported 3.5 million permanent and temporary manufacturing jobs in 2006 - more than 12% of all employment.
By 2016, that had slumped to 2.9 million, or 9.3% of the total.
