A 13-year-old boy has drowned after getting into difficulties swimming in a reservoir, despite being pulled out of the water by members of the public.

Emergency services were called to Edgbaston Reservoir, in Birmingham, just before 3.45pm on Wednesday afternoon.

Paramedics tended to him at the scene and he was rushed to hospital but later died.

Our thoughts are with the boy’s family, friends and everyone affected by his death.

HM Coroner will be looking into the full circumstances surrounding the incident, but it serves as a tragic reminder of the very real dangers of swimming in open water."
