A racecourse punter made a creative attempt to try to sneak alcohol into a venue - by hiding a bottle of vodka inside a sandwich.

Southwell Racecourse, in Nottinghamshire, have shared a photograph of the man's efforts.

A 35cl bottle of Glen's Vodka had been screened by salami, seasoned with sliced tomato, and shrouded in a sub roll.

A spokesman for the racecourse said the sandwich is still sat in their office.

On Sunday for our ladies' day we had the best part of 9,000 people here, and lots of people were bringing picnics on the day.

Our policy is you can't bring alcohol with them, and this particular customer had tried to disguise it with a salami and tomato sandwich.

It was a bit of an unusual one for us, we've seen a couple of these before, some more obvious than others.

Normally it would be confiscated off them but security said to them it was so innovative they could pick it up after the racing but they haven't done so - it's still sat in the office!
