Council update after huge fire at former leisure centre

Nottinghamshire county council are working with contractors to clear away any fallen debris following a huge fire at a former leisure centre, by the end of the day.

The blaze happened on Friday 15 September at the former Grove Leisure Centre in Newark.

In a statement released by the council, they said:

Working with our contractors we aim to have all significant fallen debris cleared by the end of today following the fire at the former Grove Leisure Centre in Newark.

This includes removing any visible debris from nearby streets, properties and gardens.

Residents are advised that it is alright to wash or hose any ash that may have settled on their property.

The nearby Newark Orchard School and Balderton Day Centre have been given the all clear to open tomorrow as normal.

We would like to reassure residents that we are doing all we can to bring forward the demolition of the building which will be in line with approved safety management procedures.
