A man who launched a series of machete attacks after suspecting his estranged wife of having an affair has been jailed for 28 years.

Mohammed Tabriz attacked a 19-year-old man in the head at an address in Smethwick.

He then drove to an address in Washwood Heath and stabbed a woman and caused injury to her two-year-old son in Washwood Heath

These were two separate attacks that happened on December 6 last year.

Tabriz had suspected his estranged wife was having an affair and this is thought to have been what had motivated him to commit such acts of violence. His first victim has significant and long lasting injuries, both physical and psychological and both he and the woman have permanent scarring which is a daily reminder of their ordeal."

– Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Jamie Mason said:

The 36-year-old from Fentham Road in Aston, was found guilty after a nine day trial and was sentenced to 28 years for attempting to murder the 19-year-old man, 18 years for the woman and 12 years for her son, all to run concurrently.
