A pet owner has released an image of her cat after he was shot in the head.

Leigh Robinson hopes the graphic image of two-year-old Mr Pickles, known as Pickle, will lead to the person responsible being brought to justice.

Leigh, who lives off Fosse Road in Leicester, said she was heartbroken when she first saw her injured pet.

The 38-year-old support co-ordinator at a Leicester hostel, said:

His right eye was protruding and he was in really bad way.

We got him to the emergency vet straightaway who did an X-ray and told us he had been shot between the eyes with gun.

On the x-ray you can see the bullet or pellet lodged in his skull. It is awful.

Leigh, who lives with her 38-year-old husband Jim, and six-year-old daughter Evlyn, said the vet hopes Pickle will survive.

She said:

He is having an operation today and they are going to have to remove his right eye. They are hopeful that they can save his left eye and that he wont be totally blind. He is really poorly but we are all praying that he can make it through the operation.

Leigh said that her daughter Evlyn was unable to look at Pickle due to his horrific injuries.

I want people to look at this photograph and see what agony Pickle must be in.

I hope this makes people realise the ramifications of shooting at cats. I don’t know how anyone could do such a disgusting act as shooting a defenceless pet animal.

Pickle is part of the family - we are all devastated. Even Merlin the dog is missing his cat buddy.

Leigh said she realised Pickle had be shot after finding him sitting motionless in the garden after being out all night on Sunday night.
