Hurricane Irma aid shortly leaving East Midlands Airport

Food and water is being flown from East Midlands Airport to the Caribbean after the devastation of Hurricane Irma.

40 tonnes of ready made meals and 70 tonnes of bottled water are being sent to feed the 1000 plus British troops working on the ground.

The Ministry of Defence asked East Midlands Airport for help because of their central location.

The flight will leave at 15.40 this afternoon (21 September).
