Traffic police were stunned when they spotted a car being driven with a custom go-faster stripe covering most of the windscreen.

Officers stopped the driver near Junction 2 of the M5 at Oldbury near Birmingham for a closer look at the Ford Mondeo on Thursday.

The car also turned out to be riddled with other faults and the man has now been charged with driving a car in dangerous condition.

West Midlands Police said he is also charged with driving while banned, without insurance and obstructing a police constable.

The Central Motorway Police Group tweeted a photo of the thick yellow stripe, which covered part of the window.

Police said: "Racing stripes normally on the panels not the screen - one of many faults with this dangerous vehicle."

A force spokesman added that the car had now been seized.
