Police appeal for information over fatal collision

Police are appealing for information over a fatal collision involving a car and a double decker bus.

The collision between a white BMW and the double decker bus happened on Hamstead Road, close to the junction with Amberley Green in Birmingham, just before 21:00 on 23 September.

Emergency services attended the scene and the road was closed for a number of hours.

The driver of the BMW and his front seat passenger, who was in his 20s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver, named as Deepak Riat, later died in hospital.

The bus driver and three passengers received minor injuries.

Police Sergeant Alan Wood, from the force’s collision investigation unit, said:

We are investigating the circumstances of what happened. A number of witnesses were spoken to at the scene, and the vehicles have been recovered for further analysis. I would like to appeal for anyone who saw the collision take place to come forward if they have not done so already.

Deepak Riat's family also released a statement:

In loving memory of our soldier, Dee. We will all love you for the rest of our lives. Rest in peace King. We ask, as a family, for privacy at this very difficult time.
