Detectives investigating the murder of a teenager in Walsall on Saturday night (October 14) have arrested a man on suspicion of assisting an offender.

West Midlands Police detained the man at his home in Derby at 7pm last night in connection with a large fight that broke out at a boxing event at the town hall and spilled onto the street at around 11.30pm.

The victim – 19-year-old Reagan Asbury from Pelsall – died in hospital on Sunday having suffered an injury to his neck.

Officers are now trying to trace the offender and Detective Inspector Justin Spanner, who is overseeing the enquiry, is urging anyone who saw what happened or attended the event to get in touch:

The teenager sadly passed away on Sunday evening and we have now launched a full-scale murder enquiry. One man has been arrested and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the offender.

We have spoken to several witnesses already and secured CCTV in a bid to explain what sparked the disorder and identify the offender – but we know there was a large crowd at the event and we need to speak to as many of them as possible.

I need those people to get in touch as they could have seen something crucial or caught something important on mobile phone footage. Equally, I’d like to speak to anyone who was outside Walsall Town Hall late on Saturday night or anyone who suspects who may be responsible for this tragic event.
