A Gedling man has launched a campaign to create a new war memorial to pay tribute to his nephew, after he was killed in Afghanistan.
Lance Corporal Martin J Gill died in action on June 5, 2011, when he was just 22 years old.
He grew up in Carlton and joined the Royal Marines when he was 18.
Now his uncle, Paul Gunter, wants Martin to be remembered by having his name inscribed on a war memorial in Carlton - but was shocked to find Carlton did not have available.
Mr Gunter has therefore decided to start a campaign to raise more than £15,000 to pay for a new memorial to go in Carlton Cemetary.
Gedling Borough Council has already granted planning permission for the memorial to go ahead, and has pledged £1,650 towards the cost.
